According to the Free Online Dictionary, authenticity refers to the quality or condition of being authentic, trustworthy, or genuine.

In assessment authenticity refers to the extend to which the assessment task is a worthy intellectual task that is close to the ability and context that the learning has focussed on. For example, testing customer services skills by asking questions (what would you say if.., how would you respond to..) is not authentic. Putting this student is a customer facing role and observing and evaluating their behaviour is.
